Academic Hospitalist (3-309-1049) The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a full time Academic Hospitalist. As one of 30 hospitalists, this individual will have the opportunity to work on our teaching hospitalist service as well as our non-teaching, direct care services. While attending on the general medical teaching service, hospitalists supervise care provided by a resident team and provide education to third and fourth year medical students, interns, and residents.

Non-teaching responsibilities include supervising advanced practice providers as well as providing direct clinical care in the Medical Intermediate Care unit and non-teaching general medicine and transplant medicine services. Hospitalists provide medical consultation throughout the hospital, as well as serve in a Medical Admitting Officer role in which they facilitate bed control and direct admissions as needed to expedite transfers from our acute care units, the Emergency Department, and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

UMMC is a referral center for the most critically ill patients in the Mid-Atlantic region. The University of Maryland School of Medicine and Medical Center are recruiting a full-time internist for a non-tenure track faculty position.  The bulk of the responsibilities for this position will be in an administrative capacity, working as a Physician Advisor for the University of Maryland Medical Center.  Duties of this position will be to collaborate with medical staff leadership, clinicians, and care management leaders to develop and implement methods to optimize use of hospital services for all patients, as well as educate and inform medical staff regarding issues of compliance, medical necessity and resource utilization.  This individual will be expected to develop solutions for difficult discharges in collaboration with care management staff and community partners, participate in strategic planning and interventions to optimize payment of care delivered in the hospital and will serve as a liaison between utilization management and clinical service lines, as well as between payers and treating physicians.  Working with hospital leadership, he/she will ensure medical practices will achieve quality/patient safety and resource management goals, will act as a clinical consultant providing medical expertise regarding physician practice patterns and will function in accordance with CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation for Utilization Review and other applicable regulatory, compliance, and accrediting requirements.  Clinical responsibilities will include inpatient attending coverage on one of our general medical and/or inpatient hospitalist teams for up to 2 months per year.

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting full time hospitalists.  These positions will provide inpatient attending coverage on our non-teaching services. Duties include staffing of our observation unit, general internal medicine non-teaching service, and transplant medicine services, as well as providing medical consultations for general medicine, transplant medicine, and co-management of surgical services.  Please indicate in your response if you have a special interest in transplant medicine.  Opportunities for full-time nocturnists are also available.

Infectious Diseases Clinician Educators (03-309-1016).  The University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine’s Infectious Diseases Division and the Institute of Human Virology’s Division of Clinical Care is seeking full-time clinician educators.  Responsibilities will include providing comprehensive clinical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings to patients with infectious diseases, as well as participating in educational activities directed at fellows, house staff and students.  Opportunity for additional involvement within the division’s inpatient infectious disease teaching services and antimicrobial stewardship programs are also available, if interested. 

Applicants must be board-certified in internal medicine; board eligible or board certified in infectious diseases and eligible to obtain an independent Maryland license.  Candidates must demonstrate an interest in the clinical management of complicated post-surgical infections, as well as other infectious diseases.

The Nephrology Division at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has openings for our expanding clinical programs at our Downtown and Midtown locations.  In addition to inpatient and outpatient clinical services, the candidate will also be expected to be involved in focused basic/clinical research.

Successful candidates must have received their MD degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent), be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, and be eligible to obtain an independent medical license in the State of Maryland.  Excellent clinical and teaching skills are also required as instruction of medical residents and fellows is integral to our clinical programs.  Faculty rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with experience, although we anticipate the position will be as Assistant Professor or higher.
