The teaching hospitalist program at Maryland was created in order to provide 24/7 coverage of a general medical inpatient service at the University of Maryland Medical Center.  On this service the individual will be expected to enhance supervision and education of medical students and residents, facilitate bed control, direct admissions as needed, and decrease patient length of stay, costs per case, and re-admission rates.

Non-teaching responsibilities as an Intermediate Care Hospitalist in the Medical IMC will include inpatient coverage and serves to expedite transfers from our acute care units, the Emergency Department and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

Nurse Practitioner Positions for Expanding Hospitalist Services Team

Hospitalist Services Team is seeking an acute care nurse practitioner (NP), to cover night shifts (5p-5a, 6p-6a, or 8p-8a). Weekday, weekend, shift work, holiday and on-call mat be required.  Program has clearly defined clinical pathways.

Successful candidate will have successfully completed an approved accredited program as acute care, nurse practitioner with appropriate certification exams.  National certification in the area specialty and licensed by the Maryland Board of Nursing.  NPI number, DEA and CDS required.  BLS required.  ACLS required.

Previous experience as NP preferred, but not required. Registered nurse experience in an acute care setting highly preferred.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Floor calls,
  • Admissions with orders and dictations.
  • Back-up support is ICU APC, and nocturnist hospitalist.
  • Work schedule is eight, ten, or twelve hour shifts available 
    • Night shift (5p-5a, 6p-6a or 8p-8a).

Nurse Practitioner will be a hospital employee with competitive salary and benefits package. Night shift has significant night differential in addition to base salary.

Nurse Practitioner for Care Coordination Center

Nurse Practitioner (NP) needed to join comprehensive care team. NP will be mainly responsible for diagnosing and treating patients independently and in collaboration with physician(s) and APP colleagues.  The NP will facilitate the continuity of patient care by facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient and patients’ family.  The goal is to serve as a link to integrating relevant services both internal and community based consistent with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s triple aim of better health, better care, and lower cost. 

Successful candidate will be a graduate of a Master’s degree program with concentrated area of study in acute, or adult medicine. Current licensure in Maryland and ACLS and BCLS certification required.  Position will require three-years of previously worked acute care NP experience or experience with chronic illness and or other accepted related experience as appropriate. 

The position is day shift Monday – Friday 8am - 4:30 pm. Competitive salary and full benefits package included.
