Clinical Cardiologist (03-309-1017)- The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a general cardiologist to teach and provide clinical cardiology services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings at the Assistant Professor level on a clinical educator pathway.  Expertise in echocardiography, including TEE and stress echo is required.  Additional interest in healthcare disparities, access to care and quality improvement initiatives is desirable.  The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of echocardiography, general cardiology and academic programs at the University of Maryland Medical Center with a primary focus on providing and optimizing clinical care and teaching at the Midtown Campus.

Director of Community Health (3-309-996).  The University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine’s Infectious Diseases Division and the Institute of Human Virology’s Division of Clinical Care is seeking to hire a Community Health Director to join our existing community health team. Primarily the position will be responsible for supporting the development of the strategy and plan to impact the HIV epidemic in Baltimore, as well as executing against that plan. Essential functions of the position include:

  • Provide strategic direction for the program, to include establishing goals, objectives and implementation plans.

Performs professional duties and technical procedures of the particular area of specialty to provide examination and treatment of patients. Orders and analyzes appropriate tests and procedures to provide information on patient’s condition; and other duties as assigned.

In addition to the normally accepted skill set of a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, the person in this position is expected to:   

  • Be proficient in Primary Care, Urgent Care and Women’s Health Care for a young adult and full spectrum population (including immunizations, contraception, and mental health treatment)  
  • Have experience in procedural skills such as suturing, incision and drainage and minor excisions  
  • Have a working knowledge of CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic  
  • Be able to assist the Department of Family & Community Medicine in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic in general and specifically with UMIC’s care of the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland Baltimore  
  • Have the ability to deal positively, tactfully, and productively with students, faculty, staff, and university administrators  
  • Maintain confidentiality according to UMIC and Waterloo primary care rules and established regulatory guidelines  
  • Be available to consult with the Medical Director and Asst. Medical Director as needed  
  • Participate in committees and departmental meetings   
  • Provide clinical oversight to the Advanced Practice Providers  
  • Provide clinical oversight to the Ancillary Staff  
  • Participate in committees and departmental meetings  

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
* Doctoral degree in Medicine in area of specialty
* 3-5 years of clinical experience
* CPR required
* ACLS/BCLS required
* Board certification/eligibility in area of specialty
* Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, and/or publishing.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific need
* Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, patient’s families, departmental units, and medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
